Julian Tanaka

Frank ValerianiJulian Tanaka is sophomore at University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He is currently a jazz composition major and plays first tenor saxophone in
UNLV Jazz Ensemble I under the direction of Dave Loeb and Bruce Paulson.
Julian grew up in Henderson, Nevada and graduated from Las Vegas Academy of Performing and Visual Arts and International Studies in 2006. While at the Las Vegas Academy, he received the Louis Armstrong Award from the jazz department and participated in Honor Band and Honor Jazz Band at the local and state levels.

Thus far, Julian has had the pleasure of working with many fine musicians at UNLV including Chris Potter, Bob Sheppard, Bobby Shew, Bobby McChesney, Wayne Bergeron, Jim Pugh, and Eijiro Nakagawa. Mr. Tanaka is also one of the four recipients of the coveted Liberace Foundation Jazz Quartet honor for the academic year 2007-2008. In addition, Julian has continued to earn the honor of being selected a one of the five Joe Williams Everyday Foundation Scholarship winners for 2007-2008.
